Parks & Recreation Commission Minutes 01/08/2008
TOWN OF BEDFORD

PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION

MEETING MINUTES

January 8, 2008

Present were:  Norman Longval (TC Rep), Lori Radke (alt), Michelle Casale and William Foote.  (Not present:  Sue Thomas, Kim Daneault)

Acting Chairman Foote opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m.  I want to let everyone know that the previous Chairman, Don Foster has resigned so our first order of business is to nominate a Chairman and Vice Chairman to the Commission.

MOTION made by Ms. Radke to nominate William Foote as Chairman for the Parks & Recreation Commission.  Seconded by Ms. Casale.  Vote taken – all in favor.  (3-0-1 with Mr. Foote abstaining)  Motion passes.

Chairman Foote said thank you.  Now can I have a nomination for Vice Chairman?

MOTION made by Ms. Radke to nominate Michelle Casale as Vice Chairman for the Parks & Recreation Commission.  Seconded by Mr. Foote.  Vote taken – all in favor.  (3-0-1 with Ms. Casale abstaining)  Motion passes.

Ms. Casale said thank you.

Chairman Foote said under Olde Business the Dog Park Subcommittee; apparently we had no takers for this subcommittee.

Mr. Longval said we will put another ad in the paper and hopefully we will get better results.  This time around I think we probably will, at least I am hoping for that.

Chairman Foote said in the minutes it talked about getting in contact with the Animal Rescue League and I was given a contact so I can give you that name later.  There would probably be several people interested in helping out.  Mr. Longval said that would be nice to get them involved.  I would also like to check out some of the surrounding Veterinarians to see if they may have someone on staff that would be interested.  Chairman Foote said or at least get the word out there.

Ms. Casale said, Norm I had a quick question, could you refresh my memory on the park, were we going to go for a vote in March on the Town ballot for interest?  We talked about that at one point that we were going to try to put something on the March ballot.  Mr. Longval said, as we don’t have the subcommittee together we have to wait.

Ms. O’Brien said the original thought was to put something on after we formed the subcommittee to educate the residents about location, cost, etc., but as we do not have a subcommittee yet we cannot put anything on the March ballot.

Ms. Casale asked so let me understand this, now are we not going to put something on the March ballot?  Mr. Longval said right, because the subcommittee hasn’t materialized to put the information together.  Ms. O’Brien said we need to put the subcommittee together and then get the information to educate the residents; we have two more elections this year, so we can wait until September or November.  Ms. Casale said I just wanted a clarification on that.

Mr. Longval said that Jane and I had a lengthily discussion about that recently and the way we are going to do this is how we set it up originally and that is to go with the subcommittee and then take it to the Council.  Ms. Casale said so bypass the Town ballot in March.  Mr. Longval said yes.

Chairman Foote said this meeting is going way to fast.  We need to approve the minutes from November 13, 2007.  I have no problem with that does anyone else?

MOTION made by Ms. Casale to approve the minutes of November 13, 2007.  Seconded by Mr. Longval.  Vote taken – All in favor  (3-0-1 Ms. Radke abstained).

Chairman Foote said seeing that there are no public comments.  Can I have a motion to adjourn?

MOTION made by Ms. Radke to adjourn.  Seconded by Ms. Casale.  Vote taken – all in favor.  Motion approved.

Adjourned Meeting 7:11 p.m.
