NEW PERMIT APPLICATION
The Bedford Fire Department has developed a new application for the request of permits. The new application will be used for the following types of permit requests:
- Certificate of Operation (New Tenant)
- Fire Alarm System
- Life Safety
- Sprinkler System
- Suppression System
- UST Installation
- UST Removal
- Other work as necessary
The permit application has been modified to accommodate a new software system being used by the town, for ease of use, and for use on the internet for electronic submissions. It must be completed IN ITS ENTIRETY or it will not be processed. If there is a field that is not applicable to the application, such as the building or floor number, place an “X” or “N/A” in the box. Applications & Plan Reviews typically take up to 10 business days although we do not guarantee that this will always be the case. Again, the processing of an application will not begin until ALL of the required information is provided to the Fire Department.
One completed application is needed for each permit request. Applications with more than one permit type checked off will not be processed.
Permit fees are due prior to issuance of the permit. Fees are listed under the most current version of the Town of Bedford’s Fee Schedule. Most fees are calculated using the square footage that a system will be covering. There is a minimum fee listed for each item if the permit is for something other than a system or if the square footage of the area being covered is small.
There is space provided on the application for a detailed description of the work being proposed. Please provide as much information as possible to help us understand what kind of work you are proposing and how it will be compliant with state and local requirements. You may attach additional pages to the application if needed.
On the reverse of the application is a reference guide. This is not an all-inclusive list of requirements but a tool to help remind you of the key items during the permitting and inspection process. The full requirements can be found in the applicable NFPA code sections, state fire code, town ordinances, and the Town of Bedford Fire Code Handbook.
Once the application packet has been reviewed and approved, you will receive notification via email or a phone call that the review is complete and that the permit is ready to be picked up at the Fire Department administration window. Remember, all fees are due prior to the issuance of the permit. The office hours are Monday through Friday from 08:30 a.m. to 04:30 p.m. (holidays excluded).
