INSTALL smoke detectors on every floor of your house including the basement and the attic.
TEST smoke detectors regularly and REPLACE BATTERIES TWICE A YEAR!!
When the clocks change in the Fall Season and in the Spring Season.
NEVER smoke in bed, be sure all matches and smoking materials are out before throwing them in the trash.

BE SURE all electrical and extension cords are in good working condition
DO NOT overload electrical outlets.
~KEEP all chimneys, fireplaces, furnaces and vents in good working order. Have them cleaned every year.
~ONLY use approved portable heaters with a safety "tip-off" thermostat - Never leave them on overnight!
~NEVER place a portable heater near curtains, upholstered furniture, or other flammable materials.
~NEVER store flammable items such as wood, paper, chemicals, or oily and dirty rags near heat sources.
