When are property taxes due in Bedford?
A: Bedford’s property taxes are due semi-annually each July 1st and December 1st.


 
What period does the tax bill cover?
A: The July tax bill covers from April 1st through September 30th, and the December tax bill covers October 1st through March 31st of the following year.

 

What types of payment does the Town of Bedford accept?
A: The Town of Bedford accepts cash, certified bank checks, cashiers check, personal checks drawn from a local bank or a money order. At this time the Town of Bedford is unable to accept debit or credit cards for payment.


 
When does my account start to accrue interest?
A: The interest accrues at 12% annually and it begins the day after your due date noted on your bill.

 
What is the interest rate if a lien is put on my property?
A: The interest rate is 18% APR for a property tax lien.
 



My taxes are paid through an escrow account; do I have to forward my tax bill to them?
A: It is the homeowner’s responsibility to forward the tax bill to their mortgage company for payment to be made on time. However, major banks request tax-billing info from the Town, which they receive electronically. Therefore, your bank may obtain the necessary tax information without receiving the physical bill. Please check with your bank directly for more information.
 



If there is a lien put on my property, how long before further action is taken by the Town?   
A: Taxpayers have two years from the date the lien is executed to redeem liens, interest and costs prior to the tax collector deeding the property to the Town of Bedford. A series of mail notifications are sent to the homeowner at the last know address as part of the deeding process.


 
How do I change my address for my tax bill?   
A: Print the Change of Address Form and mail to the Town of Bedford, ATTN: Assessing Department,24 North Amherst Rd. Bedford, NH 03110.


 
What kind of tax exemptions/credits does the Town of Bedford offer?  
A: Exemptions are available for the blind, disabled, elderly and those homes with solar energy. Credits are available for Veterans and Disabled Veterans. For more information on exemptions/credits please visit the Assessing web page or contact our assessor’s office at 472-8104.


 
I recently purchased my property in Bedford. How long before future tax bills are sent in my name?
A: The Town of Bedford generally sends their semi-annual tax bills out in mid-May and mid-October. At the time of billing, if your closing is near one of those processing dates please be advised that you may not receive your tax bill as it would go to the owner on record with the Town of Bedford. The Hillsborough County Registry of Deeds generally takes four to six weeks to record a new deed. The Town is then notified of a change of ownership once the deed is recorded.
